Yes, subject to the rules that apply to your home, a suitable appliance and a compliant installation. We assess the flue route, ventilation, clearances and any relevant property restrictions before specifying your project.
In a smoke control area, wood can only be burned in an appropriately Defra-exempt appliance, using the permitted fuel and following its conditions and manufacturer instructions. Your local council can confirm whether your home is in a smoke control area.
No. Ecodesign sets appliance efficiency and emissions requirements. Defra exemption concerns the use of specified fuels in smoke control areas. We check the requirements separately when recommending a stove.
There is no blanket requirement to replace every existing stove simply because Ecodesign standards apply to new appliances. Your appliance and fuel use must still meet the rules relevant to your home, including smoke control restrictions. We can assess its condition and discuss whether an upgrade would be worthwhile.
Use the fuel specified by your appliance manufacturer. For logs, choose dry wood with a moisture content of 20% or less. Ready to Burn certification helps identify wood suitable for immediate use.
